Downtown Aiken SC Tribute to William Aiken Sr

                                    aiken sc, william aiken sr
It all began with the train!  Here is a plaque located downtown on Newberry Street near the fountain, and there is a statue of Mr. Aiken there, too.   Here are some pictures of the fountain and the statue.  This section of Newberry Street is off The Alley and is part of our festival block.  A majority of downtown festivals and events are located on this block!

I heard that he (Aiken) fell in love and the girls father said that if Aiken brought the train through there he could court his daughter.... he brought the train, and the rest is history!  :)

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and story of Mr. Aiken, and how Aiken got it's start! It's a great little city, you should visit sometime.
Thanks for stopping by - come back again!  give me a call if I can be of any assistance with your Aiken area property search.
