Aiken SC - Feels like home!

I've lived here for several years now.  I loved Aiken the first time I visited, and I still love it here today.   I always say - 'I wasn't born here, but Aiken feels like home.', and that is still true.
Did you know that Sheryl Crow follows my blog - yup, she even called me after reading a post.    Her new album just came out - titled "Feels like home" -- I have to wonder if she got that idea from my blog closing line,,, since I use it every time, haha.    I doubt it, but it's nice to wonder and dream a little.
Here's a pic of me and Ms. Crow - backstage in North Charleston two years ago - it was a great concert, she is such a nice person!  I'm happy to have had the chance to meet her, and honored that she called me about some local real estate :)  A time in my life that I will never forget, that's for sure.

Have you visited Aiken yet?  Did you love it?!
Things I love about Aiken -  friendly smiling faces, great eateries and gathering places, lots of cool history, public gardens with free summer concerts and holiday lights at Christmastime (the gardens are open all year - great for strolling, or just sitting by the frog pond enjoying nature), so many downtown festivals and events to enjoy all year long, and the weather is FANTASTIC!!   This Jerseygirl does not miss shoveling the snow that's for sure!      If it wasn't for the railroad coming thru Aiken who knows what would have become of this little horse town.
wisteria over the railroad cut   Wisteria along the railroad tracks.

I love the train - love hearing the whistle as it comes through town.   We have old wooden bridges - hopefully they will be around forever and never replaced with steel and concrete (although I love concrete, too - these old wooden bridges are part of Aikens character)

Each side of town has it's own draw --   downtown has great shopping and eating - no chains, all mom-n-pop type establishments,  southside has the mall and so many different options for dining, from Applebees to Zaxbys!  To the west as you head towards Augusta GA --you will find our newest Walmart Super Center and the new Sams Club which will be opening soon.  To the east is horse country - beautiful views, and even some cotton fields!  And to the north we have the airport - fun to watch the planes come and go, also a few more restaurants and stores, and this will lead you to peach country :)

Aiken is perfectly located - just a few hours to visit the mountains in the fall to see the leaves in every shade of red, orange and gold that you can imagine.   We're also just a few hours to the beach so you can get your toes in the sand!  If you like the lights of the big city - we are less than an hour to Columbia SC, and about three hours to Atlanta GA.
Every spring the world is at our doorstep -  Augusta GA, home of The Masters Golf Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club is right across the river (about 17 miles!)  It is great to have all the visitors from all over the world in town for the tourny.
I could go on and on about why I love Aiken -  I'd like to hear why you love it - let me know :)
